The Valley Holiday Weather Overview

Anguilla is one of the Caribbean British overseas territories and is part of the Lesser Antilles. The capital city, The Valley, is one of the most picturesque holiday destinations for tourists that love beaches.

Attractions in The Valley

With a population total of only 1,067, the city of The Valley doesn’t suffer from the problems of overpopulation that lots of other holiday destinations suffer from.

If you are not a beach person, there is still plenty for you to do. The Valley features several interesting historical landmarks that will be popular amongst colonial history enthusiasts that include the Old Prison, the Old Factory, the Warden’s Place and the beautiful Cheddie Richardson Carving Studio.

The beautiful seas around the island really do make the island of Anguilla the quintessential paradise for anyone who enjoys sun, sand and calm turquoise seas.  There are groves, bays and islands that offer private beaches and secluded walks that can make you forget that there is a busy world beyond the blue horizon.

Where to stay in The Valley?

There is a range of accommodation available in The Valley that starts with Lloyd’s Bed & Breakfast, the Brooklands Island View Apartments and Ocean Terrace Condominiums for those who prefer self-catered accommodation.

For those who prefer the hotel experience there are hotels such as the Carimar Beach Club and Anacaona Boutique Hotel that have excellent reputations, allow guests access to facilities such as swimming pools and have beautiful ocean views.

What to eat in The Valley

There are several restaurants to choose from in The Valley that include cafes, ice cream parlours and gourmet dining experiences to tempt a wide range of palettes. If you are more interesting in takeaway than fine dining there is the Corner Bar and Pizza to cater for you.

Ken’s Pork is another option for those who would rather dine in a more relaxed atmosphere and boast the best ribs on the island as well as chicken.

The Valley Bistro is a lovely lunching spot with a French cuisine theme with a sprinkling of pizza and bistro menu items that are priced between £4 and £14.

Best time to visit The Valley

If you are looking for somewhere to escape to the sun during the colder winter months, then the Valley is the perfect holiday destination. For summer sun worshippers, the Valley is again a lovely get away destination, though the high levels of heat and humidity may prove too much for some holiday makers.

As the island is found in the Caribbean, the Valley has a tropical wet and dry climate. This means that the climate is quite humid, consistently registering above 70% humidity. Temperatures range between 18 degrees Celsius and 37 degrees Celsius over the course of the year, though they tend to average around 26 – 29 degrees Celsius.

The effect of the seasons on the weather sees August through December having higher rainfall than January through July, but temperature is largely unaffected.

Summer in The Valley

During the months of July and August, the Valley experiences the highest temperatures, reaching around 37 degrees Celsius in August and averaging around 29 degrees Celsius in July. Perfect sun and heat combinations for those who want to lie on the beach and work on their tan.

Autumn in The Valley

September is the wettest month of the year for The Valley, with 4.6” of rainfall recorded, though the temperature doesn’t drop too low. If you can cope with warm rain, the Autumn is a great time to visit and avoid families on their school holidays and the more expensive flights.

Winter in The Valley

January experiences the lowest temperatures for The Valley, with the lowest recorded temperature being around 18 degrees Celsius. Though this is fairly cool for The Valley, for those who live in countries where the temperature drops below zero, the comfortably warm climate could well be a welcome alternative to the cold and snow of winter.

Spring in The Valley

March is the driest month of the year for the Valley with an average of 1.7” of rainfall recorded, with the smallest amount of rainfall and temperatures in the 20 degrees Celsius range, it is a great time of year to visit The Valley in order to shake off your winter blues.

What to wear on Holiday in The Valley?

As the island is a British Colony, western apparel is more than acceptable. For the beach, bikinis and shorts are more than acceptable though when visiting beach bars, cafes and tourist attractions you will be expected to be covered up in shorts and t-shirts.

Some of the hotels and restaurants do have a dress code, but it is best to check on their websites for the exact details of what they expect so you don’t find yourself turned away at the door and caught unaware.
