Adelaide is the fifth largest city in Australia and the capital of South Australia.

Things to do in Adelaide

As Adelaide is such a large city to visit there are plenty of attractions to see whilst on holiday. From the botanical gardens, one of 29 parks in the city, to the Adelaide Eat Streets, there is a wide variety of sights to see and enjoy.

There are galleries and museums to visit that include the South Australian Art Gallery and the Jam Factory Contemporary Craft and Design studio for those who are of an artistic persuasion. For those more interested in historical and aboriginal culture there is the Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute that features aboriginal art, and dance and theatre productions.

For those who are interested in history rather than arts there is the South Australian Museum that has rare fossils that include a four-storey giant squid on display.

Where to stay in Adelaide?

There are a wide range of hotels that are three stars and above as well as clean and safe hostels that are perfect for those who are backpacking around the country. For those with families that want some more private accommodation there are a range of holiday apartments that can be rented.

The RNR Serviced Apartments are one of the most popular private apartments that you can rent for a holiday with a four star rating and a nice location, they are great value for money and perfect for self-catering privacy.

There are a number of chain hotels such as the Crowne Plaza and Mercure that have facilities that you would expect from hotels of their reputation. There are also hotels such as the Playford Adelaide that provides five star accommodation with “an old school elegance” and a fantastic restaurant.

The Princes Lodge Motel and Hostel 109 are more suitable for backpackers than the high priced hotels of Adelaide and are well known for being quiet, clean and very reliable.

Top places and food to eat in Adelaide

Adelaide boasts some incredible restaurants with a wide range of cuisines, including Indian, Italian, Vegan, Nepalese, Japanese and even some contemporary restaurants.

Kenji is a Japanese restaurant that has an excellent reputation for its sushi, not only do the meals taste fantastic they are also so well-presented that they look as good as they taste. The Playford Restaurant is one that brings the contemporary feel too food for breakfast, lunch and dinner with an enjoyable ambience and delicious food.

When it comes to cafes for coffee and breakfast there are plenty of little places that serve lovely coffee and reasonable breakfast menus including the UR café.
