Chongqing Holiday Weather Overview
Chongqing is found in southwest China and is one of the four directly controlled municipalities in the People’s Republic of China.
During the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-45) Chongqing was the wartime capital of China and is the economic centre for the area upstream in the Yangtze basin functioning as a manufacturing centre and transportation hub.
Food
There is plenty of food to be tried in Chongqing that covers Japanese and Chinese cuisine as well as other Asian elements and a handful of European restaurants.

Accommodation
Chongqing is full of hotels and resorts that have been designed to ensure that visitors to the city can relax in beautiful surrounds and can avoid the scorching summer sun of the furnace city.
There are lots of four and five star hotels to choose from including the InterContinental Chongqing, the Sofitel Forebase Chongqing, the Doubletree by Hilton, the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, the Somerset Jiefangbei Chongqing and Le Meridien Chongqing Nan’an.
If you are backpacking around China then the cost of four or five hotels might be slightly beyond your reach, however there are plenty on inns and hostels to choose from in Chongqing such as the Chongqing Greenforest Hostel, the Chongqing Sunrise Management, the Linjiang Inn and the Jiazhou Hostel.

Chongqing has lots to do as the city is rich in history, landmarks, outdoor activities and even shopping opportunities.
For those who want to experience the natural beauty of Chongqing there are the Nanshan Botanical Gardens, the Jindao Canyon Scenic area, the Jinyun Mountain Natural Reserve and the Chongqing Zoo that will allow you to see animals as well as relaxing in the quiet natural beauty of Chongqing.
If you are more interested in visiting historical attractions there are places like the Ghost City of Fengdu, the Zhazi Cave, the Chongqing Luohan Temple, the Hechuan Laitan Ancient Town and the Chongqin Catholicism Ruose Church.
There are plenty of landmarks to visit as well such as Gele Hill, Chongqing People’s Square, the Yangtze River Cableway, the Chongqing Chaotianmen, the Jiefang Monument and the Jiefangbei Square.
Spring and winter are generally seen as the best time to visit Chongqing as the weather allows for lower levels of fog, lower humidity and temperatures and low levels of rainfall. This means that it is the perfect time to get out and see the city without having to worry about the effects of the extremely high summer temperatures.
Chongqing has a sub-tropical monsoon climate and experience extremely mild weather with the average annual temperature being around 18 degrees Celsius, though there are high levels of rainfall due to the monsoons.
Fog is a big problem in Chongqing and is mostly attributed to the large amounts of manufacturing that occur in the city. The cities of Chongqing, Nanjing and Wuhan are known as the three furnace cities due to the sweltering summer temperatures that can reach as high as 40 degrees Celsius.
There are four distinct seasons in Chongqing, unstable spring with changeable temperatures and strong winds, sweltering summer with high temperatures, wet and windy autumn with temperature drops and an “Indian Summer” in October/November and finally cold winters that are rarely filled with snow and frost.
If you are visiting in the summer months then light clothing as well as high factor sun cream is advisable to take with you as well as plenty of bottled water if you are going to be out and about in the city.
For winter and spring it is recommended that you take lots of warm clothing with you. In spring the temperatures can peak quite suddenly so some light clothing should also be packed but you should be prepared for anything.
As the climate is fairly wet, making sure you have wet weather clothing with you or an umbrella is a good idea.
