Protaras Holiday Weather Overview
Protaras is a popular tourist resort in north-eastern Cyprus. Known for its family friendly approach and pretty beaches, it's a busy destination all year round. Protaras is close to the beautiful Capo Greco natural park, and offers a variety of other attractions and family tourism opportunities.
Protaras' Climate
Protaras has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wetter winters. It receives almost wall to wall sunshine throughout the year, and the seas is warm enough for swimming all year round.
Protaras in Spring
Spring is one of the best times to visit Protaras if you're not keen on holiday crowds. It's the perfect time to explore the caves, windmills and chapels of the town, and to explore Capo Greco too.
Average daily highs of 19°C in March make for an early spring, and the natural beauty of Protaras is arguably at its best at this time. Temperatures rise to around 24°C by May. Night times can be a little chilly early in spring, but are a comfortable 16°C by the end of May.
Spring showers are always possible but are usually short lived. If you're visiting Protaras in the spring, bring a shawl for the cooler evenings, but mostly you will just need lightweight summer clothing, and perhaps an umbrella.
Protaras in Summer
Summer is peak season in Protaras and you can expect its beaches and attractions to be busy, especially with families. June, July and August are hot, with average daily highs of 30-31°C and temperatures which can push higher than that. This is perfect beach weather, but possibly slightly too hot for more active pursuits. Night time temperatures are balmy, in the low 20s Celsius, and there is next to no rain.
If you're visiting Protaras in the summer, take sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and lightweight summer clothing, plus your beachwear. During a heat wave, try to stay out of the midday sun.
Protaras in Autumn
Autumn is very mild in Protaras - in September, daily highs of 30°C are still common. Temperatures begin to fall in October, but even in November you can expect daily highs of 22°C and overnight lows of 12. There is a little rain in Protaras in the autumn months, but really just the occasional rainy day rather than anything drastic.
Lightweight summer clothing will see you through September and most of October; if you're visiting Protaras in late autumn, take a jacket for the cooler nights.
Protaras in Winter
Winter is the quietest season in Protaras, but it never gets truly cold. Throughout December and January, you can expect daily high temperatures in the mid to high teens Celsius, and overnight lows which drop to around 7°C at their lowest point.
December is the wettest month, and an umbrella is required for occasional heavy rain. Most of the winter, however, is marked by clear, crisp skies, and blissful peace and quiet.
