Things to do and see in Seville

The Giralda is the only remaining structure of the 12th century mosque torn down to build the Seville Cathedral and it offers sublime panoramic views of the city below.

Visit the Alcázar of Seville is a royal palace in the city, originally a Moorish fort and is renowned for its beauty. It is the oldest palace still in use in Europe as Spain’s Royal family still use for state occasions to this day.

Casa Pilatos is another palace to visit on your travels. The casa is merchant’s palace with splendid carved marble courtyards.

Torre del Oro played a massive part during Spain’s colonial period. Otherwise known as the Golden Tower, it offered ships protection than a traditional European port.

Take a look at the wooden structure located at La Encarnación square, the Metropol Parasol.

Fans of dance should visit the Flamenco Museum, which also holds classes and demonstration dances.

Palacio de Lebrija is an interesting museum which is a transformed 16th century palace and houses a collection of Roman mosaics and sculpture.

The Museo de Bellas Artes is a former convent and appealing art museum. It has a strong Baroque collection and gardens with orange trees and pools outside.

Best food and places to eat in Seville

For lunchtime spot to eat, Casablanca tapas bar is just south of the Cathedral. It has many delectable dishes including the whisky tortilla and fried fish. Notably it is a favourite of the King and Queen of Spain.

Pando Cuna is a small restaurant in the Seville’s old city but offers modern and adventurous cuisine. It has a tapas bar and the Iberian ham is a particular highlight.

It might look nothing special from the outside but Los Coloniales serves quality food such as chorizo a la Asturiana – spicy sausage in an onion sauce on bed of potato – and eggplants in honey.

Santo Restaurante serves experimental food with hints of Andalucian tradition.
