Goa Holiday Weather Overview

This stunning and exotic outpost has been a destination for Europeans for hundreds of years. Originally a Portuguese colonial community, in some parts of the state, this heritage can be seen in everything from the architecture to the food, language and indeed, the people.

Some of the biggest holiday destinations in Goa first rose to prominence as hippy enclaves. That free-wheeling, party atmosphere has grown into a big attraction for the thousands of people who holiday at beachfront communities geared to foreign party-goers and raves. Weather in Goa makes it a big holiday destination.

But Goa offers much more than just a two-week party destination. Though India's smallest state, Goa enjoys a much stronger GDP than the Indian average, thanks to strong industries. Goa contains two UNESCO World Heritage Sites and plenty of other historic architecture. Goa also has many important religious sites and a wealth of museums.

When is the best month to visit Goa?

Weather in Goa largely determines the best times to visit. The potential for bargains in monsoon season is reduced by dangerous seas and a lack of open facilities. November through March is considered the prime season. If you're keen on local colour, be sure to check when the lively religious festivals are being held. Many local facilities are closed outside of tourist season (October to February).

Climate in Goa

Goa weather enjoys a tropical climate that is, for the most part, moderated by the Arabian Sea. Winter (September to March) is most popular, especially the peak season in December and through New Year, when destinations are packed. Temperatures range 20°C to 32°C. In summer (April to May), Goa weather gets hot and humid, with daytime temperatures peaking in the high 30s. Unbearable for some, the thick and heavy atmosphere is finally relieved with the onset of the Monsoon season (June to August). The wind and rain are heaviest in July.

Goa, the smallest state in India by area, enjoys a tropical monsoon climate under the Koppen climate classification that features a hot and humid weather for most of the year with two distinct seasons, the dry season and the monsoon season.

Monsoon season in Goa

From June till September Goa goes through the monsoon season. The city receives abundant of precipitation during this monsoon months. During this time the city receives a reduced level of sunshine as July gets not more three hours of sunshine per day. Heavy rainfall often causes flash flooding and also pushes humidity up. Although the heat decreases, tourists don’t desire to visit Goa during this season.

Moreover, night time temperatures go down into the mid teens – that is very much pleasant for tourists. January with more than 320 hours of sunshine remains the sunniest month of the year.
